I previously wrote about Twitter and how I use it to keep in touch with people I meet at Japanese pop-culture events I attend when I'm overseas. Sometimes I get to see them again when they finally come to Tokyo, a city they have long dreamed about.
I'm often surprised by just how well they know places associated with contemporary Japanese culture, such as fashion districts Harajuku and Shinjuku, and, of course, Akihabara, the centre of the otaku world. They were able to find everything they wanted to know via the Internet.
Sanja, a college student from Slovenia, is one such person. I met her for the first time in Paris in 2009. We kept in touch through e-mail and tweets, and saw each other again at last year's Japan Expo in that city.
